Rugged GPS receiver with very fast auto-routing and route optimization, voice guidance, color display with touchscreen, integrated world and Europe/Africa map, pre-installed detailed map of Europe plus USB and BlueTooth interface. Equipped with MP3 player and image viewer. Traffic receiver and travel guides available as options. Well suited for all kinds of vehicles, particularly motor bikes, but also suitable as hand held device.

The GARMIN Zumo 550 provides very fast automatic route calculation and optimization by reordering routes with multiple via-points, visual and voice guidance, has a large, easy to read color display with touchscreen, an extremely sensitive antenna, an integrated world map (overview) plus a base map of Europe, Africa and the near East. It has a multi-lingual user interface and is easy to use, either via the touchscreen or the conveniently located buttons.
The Zumo 550 has enough built-in memory to store pre-installed, detailed maps of all of Europe with even more information, such as local roads, restaurants and points of interest. A DVD City Navigator Europe V9 NT plus a free unlock code is also included. In addition, it is equipped with approx. 300 MB memory to store information such as waypoints, MP3 files and pictures. This model also has a speech computer to announce the names of the roads and to read audible books.
The Zumo 550 is equipped with a BlueTooth interface to communicate with mobile phones which have the required communication capabilities in order to call car rental offices, hotels, restaurants etc. whose phone numbers are stored on the GPS with a single touch on the screen. It can also act as a hands-free extension set to the phones.
Finally, the Zumo 550 has a slot for an optional SD memory module to store additional detailed maps or data such as MP3 files or images and it supports an optional TMC receiver to incorporate traffic news. It provides navigation information outdoors, in a car, in a train or even in an airplane (see MapSource examples).

Supports optional FM traffic news receiver. Receives and processes traffic news messages broadcasted by radio stations. If the GPS receives a message about a traffic jam, blocked road etc. along the planned route, it can automatically compute a detour. Traffic news messages are broadcasted by many radio stations in various European countries including Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. These messages are broadcasted for free and do not require any subscriptions. The TMC receiver works independent from the car radio and finds stations with traffic news messages automatically.
BlueTooth interface to communicate with mobile phones which have the required communication capabilities in order to call car rental offices, hotels, restaurants etc. whose phone numbers are stored on the GPS with a single touch on the screen. It can also act as a hands-free extension set to the mobile phones. The Zumo 550 is equipped with a built-in microphone. An external microphone is available as an option for all thre models.

Automatic computing of a route to a user selected destination including one or more optional via-points. The GPS can optimize routes with multiple via-points by reordering the via-points to the shortest possible route.
