The GARMIN TracPak is a portable GPS receiver with an extremely sensitive antenna and a serial interface, suited to be used together with a notebook or a similar system.

GARMIN TracPak

Features:

  • Robust housing with mounting plate
  • Integrated 12 channel receiver with very sensitive built-in antenna
  • Short time to first fix (TTFF¹: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a coldstart, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available)
  • Supports the following protocols for data exchange with PC: NMEA 0183 with 4800 Baud, GARMIN, GARMIN DGPS, Text, RTCM IN, RTCM/NMEA and RTCM/TEXT
  • DGPS (Differential GPS) ready (GARMIN differential receiver available as an option)
  • Supports more than 100 different datum (coordinate systems)
  • Operating temperature: -30 .. 85°C
  • Serial interface RS-232 with 9-pin plug (DB-9) and the following baud rates: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600
  • Operating voltage: 10 .. 30 V (not regulated)
  • Power consumption: approx. 150 mA at 12 V
  • Power plug for car lighter
  • Length of antenna cable: 3.5 m (12 feet)
  • Length of power cable: 2.5 m (8 feet)
  • Dimensions: 97x56x27 mm
  • Weight: 125 g (ohne Kabel)
  • Built-in 3 V battery to hold data about the satellites, lasts about 10 years.

¹) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the local position is acquired.

Information for navigation:

  • Current position (longitude, latitude, altitude)
  • Current speed
  • Current time and date
  • Current accuracy of the position information
  • Status information about the satellites and the receiver
  • The information gets updated every second

The GPS receiver switches automatically between 2D and 3D mode, but it can be set to 2D mode by software.
