Update to multilingual user interface requires Release 3 English
Note: This software is only compatible with the iQue 3600E units (english only), not compatible with iQue 3600 (multilingual).
The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.
To view the currently installed firmware patches, complete the following steps:
- Go to the Launcher (tap on the house icon in the lower-left corner).
- Tap the menu icon (it is the icon just to the right of the house icon in the lower-left corner).
- A drop-down menu will appear.
- Tap the Info... menu item.
- Make sure the device "Handheld" is selected and tap the version button at the bottom of the screen. This will show the current version of Palm OS, the number after "r" indicates the version of the most recent installed patch.
- Tap on Done to close the info screen.

- The REC button will no longer turn the unit on.
- Added brightness adjustment functionality to the Power key.
- The unit now turns off (instead of entering low power mode) after an alarm wakes the unit up when the GPS antenna is open.
- Improved cooperation between password-entry dialogs and the Pen Input Area.
- Voice guidance data copied to an expansion card using the VoiceGuidanceBackup utility will automatically get restored after a hard reset.
- The VoiceGuidanceBackup V1.00 utility is available for download separately.
- Added third party developer access to "Low Power Mode".
Release 3 for v5.2.1 (Palm application, requires a PC and a connection cable or a docking station, 2.5 MB)
Instructions for using this software - we strongly recommend to follow these instructions exactly:
- Download and save ique3600e_v521r3.zip to a location on your computer. Unpack the file into a folder of your choice. This will create the following 3 files:
- iQue 3600 Release 3.txt: This text
- Updater.prc: Palm update program
- UpdaterData.PDB: File that contains the actual updates
- Place the iQue in the cradle and perform a HotSync on the unit to back up any of your current data. Make sure all user data has been saved correctly and completely ! During the update process, all user data will be permanently erased from the iQue. Please ensure that the iQue is fully charged before proceeding with the software update process.
- Perform a Hard Reset of the unit. To perform this procedure, you will need the reset tip tool, which may be unscrewed from the head of the stylus that came with your iQue. The following instructions are also included on page 1.6 of the iQue 3600 Integrated Handheld Operating Instructions manual:
- With the unit turned off, press and hold in the reset button on the back of the unit using the reset tip tool.
- Continue to hold in the reset button while you press and hold the power button.
- While holding in the power button, remove the reset tool from the reset hole.
- Continue holding the power button until the Palm logo appears on the screen.
- Once the Palm logo appears, release the power button.
- Press the up button when prompted to confirm the erase of user data. This will permanently erase all user data.
- A new User for the software update will need to be created for use during the software update process:
- Start by launching the Palm Desktop application.
- Go to the Tools menu, then select Users... to display a list of the current users.
- Click on the New... button to display the New User window.
- Enter a unique name for the User, such as Release3, and then click OK.
- Close out of the Users window by clicking OK.
- If you are using Intellisync Lite or another synchronization program, from within that program, configure your new user to synchronize with the Palm Desktop or any available alternative that does not contain your primary data.
- Install the software update to the new user (Release3):
- Double click the Updater.prc file created in step 1. This will open the Palm Desktop Install Tool.
- Select the new user that you have created (Release3), and click OK.
- Double click the UpdaterData.pdb file to place it in the Palm Desktop Install Tool.
- Close the Palm Desktop Install Tool by clicking Done, then click OK.
- Place the iQue in the cradle and initiate a HotSync. A Select User window will appear. Select the new user (Release3) that you have created for the update. The Updater.prc and UpdaterData.pdb files will then be installed on the iQue.
- Remove the iQue from the cradle. It is very important that the iQue's battery does not run out during the updating process, so please verify that it is fully charged.
- Locate the Application called Updater. It can be found under the category of All. Once you have located the Updater Application, tap on it once. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
- After about 4 minutes, the green light at the top of the unit will turn off. Once the green light at the top of the unit has disappeared, perform a Soft Reset using the reset tip tool. To perform a Soft Reset, press the reset tip tool into the Reset hole on the back of the iQue. The unit will restart within about ten seconds of the Soft Reset. Follow the on-screen setup instructions.
- Verify that the software update was successful:
- Go to the Launcher (tap on the house icon in the lower-left corner).
- Tap the menu icon (it is the icon just to the right of the house icon in the lower-left corner).
- A drop-down menu will appear.
- Tap the Info... menu item.
- Make sure the device "Handheld" is selected and tap the version button at the bottom of the screen. The update was successful if the second line of the screen displays Palm OS software v.5.2.1r3.
- Tap on Done to close the info screen.
- To restore your previous information to the iQue, place the iQue in the cradle, then perform a HotSync. A window will appear asking to select a User. Select the User name that you have been previously been using to identify your iQue on your PC, and your information will be restored to the iQue.
- Delete the temporary user (Release3) by going back to the Users window in the Palm Desktop. Select the user, click Delete... then click YES to delete it.

Patch 1 for v5.2.1r2 (Not available for download)
Instructions for using this software - we strongly recommend to follow these instructions exactly:
- Download and save ique3600e_v521r2-patch01.prc to a location on your computer.
- Place the iQue in the cradle and perform a HotSync on the unit to back up any of your current data. Please ensure that the iQue is fully charged before proceeding with the patch installation process.
- Next choose to Open the patch file (double click the file in Windows explorer). This step will automatically launch the Palm Install Tool. If multiple users are defined for your Palm Desktop, then select the appropriate user. The Garmin IQue3600r2p1.prc patch should appear now in the Palm Install Tools list.
- Perform another (second) HotSync on the unit to load the patch to the iQue and then follow the prompt to Reset the unit.
- Delete the patch installation file from iQue memory using these steps (does not remove the installed patch):
- Go to the Launcher application by tapping on the house icon (located in the lower-left corner)
- Open the Launcher menu by tapping on the menu icon (located just to the right of the house icon)
- Tap on 'Delete...' from the Launcher menu
- Locate and highlight the 'Garmin iQue 3600 Rel 2 Patch 1' application
- Tap the 'Delete...' button and answer 'Yes' when asked to confirm deletion of the application and all data

The GARMIN iQue 3600 is a Palm organizer (PDA) and provides automatic route calculating, visual and voice guidance, is easy to use, has a multilingual user interface, a large, easy to read color display and an extremely sensitive antenna. The iQue 3600 comes with various loadable base maps of America; Europe, Africa and the near East; Asia and Oceania and a world map plus detailed maps of Europe. There is 32 MB of built-in memory to store even more detailed information, such as
local roads, restaurants and other points of interest. In addition, there is a slot for an optional SD card to extend this memory, see detailed description. |
