Hand held GPS receiver with large color display, integrated 3D base map, electronic compass, barometrical altimeter, optional heart rate and cadence sensor, auto-routing, USB interface and slot for optional SD memory card.

The GARMIN Colorado 300 is very easy to use thanks to its rock'n'roll key and its user friendly graphical interface. It supports multiple languages, has an integrated 3D base map, an electronic compass and a barometrical altimeter. It can receive data from an optional chest belt with a heart rate monitor and also from an optional speed and cadence sensor for bikes. The Colorado 300 has 384 MB of built-in memory to store optional maps with even more detailed information, such as local roads, restaurants and points of interest. In addition, it has a slot for a standard SD memory card. The built-in USB interface supports data exchange with a PC. The very sensitive antenna provides navigation information outdoors, in a car, in a train or even in an airplane (see MapSource examples).

GARMIN Colorado 300

Features:

  • Portable, easy to use, robust, waterproof to IPX-7 standards (withstands 30 minutes under water up to 1 meter (3 feet) deep)
  • Large, easy to read TFT color display with background illumination (256 colors, 240x400 pixel)
  • Easy to use thanks to its rock'n'roll key and three push buttons plus its user friendly, graphical interface
  • Multilingual user interface in Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish
  • Integrated 12 channel GPS receiver with very sensitive built-in antenna plus connector for optional external GPS antenna
  • Integrated world wide 3D map with countries, bodies of water, major cities and major highways
  • 384 MB of built-in memory to store even more detailed maps with local roads, points of interest etc. You may transfer these maps from a PC to the GPS
  • Slot for standard SD memory card. Memory cards are available as an option.
  • Electronic compass to check heading while not moving¹ (can be turned off so safe power, accuracy ±2°, resolution ±1°)
  • Barometrical altimeter for precise elevation recording², range -610..9144 m (-2000..+30000 feet); accuracy ±3 m (10 feet), resolution ±30 cm (1 foot)
  • Heart rate monitor, requires optional chest belt with heart rate sensor. The chest belt uses a digitally coded signal, which means, once a heart beat sensor and the GPS have been paired, the GPS will never receive a conflicting signal from another sensor. So you can exercise in close proximity to other sensors without fear of interference.
  • Cadence monitor, requires optional speed and cadence sensor. Measures the number of revolutions of the crank arms with a magnet and a wireless sensor. Like the heart rate monitor, this sensor uses a digitally coded signal. Once paired with the Colorado 300, the GPS will never receive a conflicting signal from another sensor. So you can exercise in close proximity to other sensors without fear of interference.
  • Powered by batteries (2x AA, last about 16 h) or by an external 12 V power source, e.g. from a car's cigarette lighter (power cord available as an option)
  • Short time to first fix (TTFF³: approx. 1 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 30 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available)
  • Supports the following protocols for data exchange with an external devices: NMEA 0183, GARMIN serial, Text
  • Supports WAAS (improves accuracy of position indication from typical better than 15 m (49 feet) to typical better than 3 m (10 feet))
  • Supports more than 100 different datum (coordinate systems)
  • Supports various display formats include the Swiss Grid
  • Firmware stored in Flash-Memory, can be updated by the user
  • Operating temperatures -20 .. 70°C (-4° .. 158°F)
  • USB interface (USB connection cable included)
  • Dimensions: 140x60x35 mm (5.5x2.4x1.4 inches)
  • Weight: 170 g (5.9 ounces, without batteries)
  • ¹) In order to check the heading with a GPS, a minimal movement with a speed of at least 5..8 km/h (3..5 mi/h) is required. Where no movement is not possible, a compass is needed.
  • ²) Even though a GPS provides accurate elevation information, the value slightly varies continuously. A barometrical altimeter is therefore more accurate, especially when summarizing elevation changes.
  • ³) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the current position is acquired.

Information for navigation:

  • 5 preset profiles (Recreational, Geocaching, Car, Marine, Fitness). Provides fast switching between different configuration settings of the device. Supports also user defined profiles.
  • Stores 1000 waypoints with name (30 characters), icon (choice of more than 150 symbols), comments (50 characters), coordinates, elevation and depth.
  • Stores 50 reversible routes
  • World map with zoom function in the range of 800 km to 20 m (500 mi to 80 ft)
  • Information on the map displayed in 5 levels of details.
  • Find waypoints, cities, points of interest, addresses etc. The objects you can actually search for depend on the maps loaded on the GPS. Various maps are available as an option, see list of MapSource products.

  • Current position (longitude, latitude, altitude)
  • Altitude via air pressure (barometer)
  • Current accuracy of the position information
