GARMIN GPS18 Firmware Upgrades

Firmware: V3.20 - V3.00 - V2.90 - V2.80 - V2.70 - V2.60 - V2.50 - V2.40

The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect the GPS18 to your PC.
  2. Start the program nRoute.
  3. Click on "Utilities".
  4. Select "Get GPS Information..."
  5. A pop-up window showing the current firmware version of the GPS18 will appear.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.


Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.20: (release date 10/10/2007)

  1. Improved reliability of non-volatile memory management.

Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.00:

  1. Improved USB compatibility with Macintosh computers.
  2. Improvements made to ensure that the unit correctly reports the validity of altitude and vertical speed.

Changes made from version 2.80 to 2.90:

  1. Fixed SBAS compatibility issue with Japanese MSAS system.
  2. Drop WAAS satellites that are not transmitting useful data.
  3. Fixed problem that caused USB connections to fail after leaving the units on for a long period of time.

Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80:

  1. Fixed NMEA timestamp when unit reports a lost fix.
  2. Added low-speed velocity masking as a new configuration option.
  3. Removed board revision from the PGRMT product string.

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:

  1. Added Estimated Position, represented as an ?E? in NMEA sentences, as a possible GPS mode indicator. This is displayed when the unit is propagating.
