The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

Turn on the GPS.
Press the page key until you see the settings page.
Select "SETUP" and press the enter key.
Select "ABOUT FORETREX" and press the enter key.
The current firmware version will be displayed (SW VERSION).
Press the Enter key to quit the screen.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.

Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.60:

Fixed two Norths being displayed on the compass when the language is set to Polish.
Fixed possible shutdown on timer setup when the language is set to German.
Fixed inability to modify North Reference when set to User.
Improved calculations for total ascent/descent.

Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.40:

Waypoints now store the date and timestamp when the waypoint is saved.
Fixed issue with the user datum.

Added ability to manually set the UTC offset.
Added ability to import heartrate and cadence information with track data.
Fixed user grid datum to use custom grid settings.

Changes made from version 2.10 to 2.20:

Fixed excessive startup time when numerous tracks are loaded into the unit.
Improved behavior of the time field when it is added to the compass page.
Fixed improper drawing of routing lines when navigating to a point or along a route.
Corrected an issue when editing the position of a waypoint.

The GARMIN Foretrex 401 is very easy to use, supports multiple languages and has an extremely sensitive antenna. It is the perfect partner for any outdoor activities. It helps to navigate and displays and records information about your movement, such as the current heading and speed, the travelled path (track), maximum and average speed etc. The Foretrex 401 has an electronic compass, a barometrical altimeter and it can receive data from an optional heart rate monitor and an optional cadence sensor.
