The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

  1. Turn on the GPS.
  2. Press the menu button to get to the main menu page.
  3. Select "Settings" and press the thumb stick.
  4. Select "System" and press the thumb stick.
  5. Select "About Edge" and press the thumb stick.
  6. The system will display the firmware version at the second row ("Software Version").
  7. Press the mode key to return to the previous page.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.


Changes made from version 3.20 to 3.30:

  1. Reduction in speed spikes from sensors.
  2. Improved robustness of internal filesystem.
  3. Changed XML settings file for use with Garmin Training Center.
  4. Improved autopause detection.
  5. Improved uSD card reading.
  6. Improved reliability of barometer calibration.
  7. Improved reporting of elevation data.
  8. Translation updates.

Use Web-Updater to install this version.

Changes made from version 3.10 to 3.20:

IMPORTANT: If upgrading from a software version less than 2.80 all user data will be cleared !

  1. Improved calculation and reporting of total ascent, total descent, and grade.
  2. Improved handling of history files when saving.
  3. Correctly calibrates wheel size when using PowerTap hub.
  4. Backlight setting now saved to configuration and set automatically on power-on.
  5. Improved 'Go Home' functionality to search for any user-created waypoints named home.
  6. Added new timezone for Santiago, Chile.
  7. Allow house number 0 on find address page.
  8. Improved range on power calibration page.
  9. GSC10 sensor improvements to reduce speed spikes.
  10. Uses elevation calibration point when starting an activity during a course.
  11. Added message indicating elevation calibration point has been found.
  12. Expand elevation calibration radius to 50 m.
  13. Translations updated in the user interface.

Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.10:

IMPORTANT: If upgrading from a software version less than 2.80 all user data will be cleared !

  1. Added ability to use waypoint elevation as the starting elevation for an activity when the user starts within approximately 30m of this waypoint.
  2. Fixed issue where workouts using power zones based on percent of FTP (Functional Threshold Power) or heart rate zones based on percent of maximum HR were saved incorrectly.
  3. Fixed issue where Garmin Training Center could give a data transfer failed error if the unit had a bike profile name longer than fifteen characters.
  4. Fixed issue with inaccurate display of history dates in some languages.
  5. Added support for updated Australia Daylight Saving Time start and end dates.
  6. Updated translations.

Changes made from version 2.80 to 2.90:

IMPORTANT: If upgrading from a software version less than 2.80 all user data will be cleared !

  1. Added support for high capacity SD cards (4 GB, 8 GB, etc.).
  2. Improved power and speed data recording to minimize spikes.
  3. Added 3 and 30 second moving average power data fields.
  4. Fixed issue storing empty/unnamed speed zones in user profile.
  5. Fixed issue where viewing a Scheduled Advanced Workout causes it to be deleted.

Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80:

IMPORTANT: Upgrading to software version 2.80 will clear all user data !

  1. Restructured activity logging to reduce the number of invalid TCX files.
  2. Corrected issues from 2.70 that could possibly corrupt the 'History' directory.
  3. Removed potential spikes in the power data after periods of coasting.
  4. Increased the allowable digits in the 'vertical to point' field to 4.
  5. Increased the allowable digits in the 'calories' field to 5.
  6. Updated translations.

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:

  1. Improved data recording in once per second mode.
  2. Added ability to set averaging method for power and cadence.
  3. Removed cadence filtering for power meters.
  4. Made improvements to try to prevent spurious Auto Pauses.
  5. Fixed distance and bearing display to work on Saved Rides list.
  6. Fixed issue with trying to read files that start with '.' that caused problems with Mac communication.
  7. Fixed issue where random characters were displayed in list before course names loaded.
  8. Fixed issue with speed targets not working properly in Advanced Workouts.
  9. Fixed occasional issue where a corrupted history file could be created.
  10. Added Venezuela and Australia-Lord Howe Island time zones.
  11. Updated automatic Daylight Saving Time for Auckland, New Zealand, time zone.

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60:

  1. Fixed occasional issue with Edge shutting down when scrolling through Saved Rides.
  2. Fixed occasional issue with Edge shutting down when Mode button was pressed while following a Course.
  3. Fixed issue where user could not change vertical zoom scale for a Course profile.
  4. Fixed a problem where indoor rides in History could slow down access to Where To? menu.
  5. Fixed issue with Advanced Workouts not showing up under Today when the workout is scheduled for the current day.
  6. Fixed issue where sometimes the most recent History would not be written out to XML until disconnecting and reconnecting USB.
  7. Corrected the Average Power value shown for Entire Ride in History.
  8. Removed filtering from power data stored in History files.
  9. Made some corrections to the Polish and Portuguese languages.

Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.50:

  1. Implemented change to allow the user to access Map Setup option for tracks which will allow showing that track on a map, and what color to display it in.
  2. Added ability to set Off-Route Recalculation behavior in Routing menu. User can set it to Automatic, Off, or Prompted.
  3. Fixed issue with long routes shutting down.
  4. Fixed issue where Autopause and Start/Stop were not getting saved into the History files. This could also cause Courses created from this History to not register these times.
  5. Fixed issue where History files would occasionally not upload due to misaligned data.
  6. Fixed inaccurate elevation when moving to and from areas with distinctly different altitudes or atmospheric pressures.
  7. Fixed random elevation spike in the first few track points.
  8. Added the ability to delete tracks.
  9. Fixed issue where speed would drop to 0 going through turns.
  10. Fixed issue where viewing a Course on a map went to the wrong location.
  11. Fixed barometer initialization issues in situations where the unit is turned off and back on within 5 minutes in the same location.
  12. Fixed issue with Course List where actions could be applied to the wrong Course.
  13. Fixed issue where course guidance lines were drawn on top of roads.
  14. Fixed issue with repeated Autopausing when using a wheel sensor.
  15. Fixed issue with creating a Workout with Spanish language selected.
  16. Improved German translations.

Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.40:

  1. Fixed problem where stopping and restarting the timer could cause invalid track points.
  2. Fixed problem where an invalid power value could be logged when stopping and restarting the timer.
  3. Improve battery checking to remove inadvertent shutdowns.
  4. Fixed problem where speed sensor data was not used when GPS signal was lost.
  5. Fixed problem where low or 0 speed could be recorded prior to a turn.

Changes made from version 2.20 to 2.30:

  1. Removed time limitation from history recording.
  2. Deleting history through the menu on the device will now also delete the history file from mass storage.
  3. Fixed issue where averages and calories could accumulate when auto-paused.
  4. Fixed issue where workout dates could be incorrect on the watch when loaded from the PC.
  5. Fixed issue where settings were sometimes not saved when GPS was turned off.
  6. When creating a course, device will no longer show history that does not have track point data.
  7. Correct issue with repeated auto-pause/resume when starting.
  8. Fixed issue where routes created in MapSource could have invalid points after being loaded to the Edge.
  9. Fixed some problems with calculating total ascent.
  10. Fixed issue with grade being dashed and elevation not changing.
  11. Added an Entertainment category in POI List.
  12. Speeded up searching in Find Cities.
  13. Fixed issue where wheel size was not auto-calibrating.
  14. Fixed issue where unit does not return to previous screen after route recalculation.
  15. Added progress bar for software updates.
  16. Added ability to hit LEFT/RIGHT to toggle between Bike Computer pages and Course Points page.
  17. Fixed problem with Time to Point display on course data page.
  18. Allow UP and DOWN to cycle the bottom pane of data on the Course Timer screen.
  19. Fixed some issues that would allow creating an invalid course that would end as soon as you pressed start.
  20. Fixed issue where certain languages (Svenska, Magyar, Slovensky) would not work with course compass page.
  21. Fixed issue where when more than one mapset is installed the unit only searches for addresses on the closest mapset.
  22. Fixed issue where keyboard would not immediately update when switching modes.
  23. Improved route recalculation.
  24. Fixed issue where 'Arriving At...' message does not always show destination.
  25. Disabled panning on the map displayed on the course timer page.
  26. Fixed issue where the Course Elevation Profile shows a straight line on long activities.
  27. Added average power to the lap data in XML.
  28. Updated many German translations.
  29. Fixed issue where auto-pause/manual lap causes 0 distance lap.
  30. Changed zoom levels at which towns and villages appear based on size to help declutter the map.
  31. Increased the number of calories that can be shown on History Totals page.
  32. Made some changes to reduce 0 speed reporting when using GSC10.

  1. Added more power meter support.

  4. Fix problem with locking up on the map page.
  5. Added progress bar for reading new Saved Ride data on powerup.
  6. Adjustments to reduce speed spikes.
  7. Increased internal route point memory to handle longer tracks.
  8. Corrected ANT-to-ANT transfer page display in night mode.
  9. Fixed issue with backlight brightness adjustment.
  10. Fixed lap averages not being cleared correctly, when user stops the timer, laps, and starts the timer again.
  11. Fixed issue with power wattage not updating.
  12. Added power calibration success/fail messages.
  13. Battery display should no longer show less than 100% when charging is complete.
  14. Added SiRF InstantFix support to increase speed of initial GPS fix.
  15. Fixed issue where pressing buttons would affect altitude.
  16. Implemented feature request to be able to delete all waypoints from the device.
  17. Added a 'Cities' item to the find menu.
  18. Fixed issue where searching for an address lists specific street (Avenue, Circle etc.) instead of generic street name.
  19. The Follow History list is now filtered to only show rides that contain position data.
  20. Fixed issue where some combinations of maps would not work together.

Changes made from version 2.00 to 2.10:

  1. Updated some language translations.
  2. Fixed problem updating GPS with WebUpdater.
  3. Corrected some problems with UserProfile file. Wheel size is no longer set to 0 by default. This was causing problems with Training Center.
  4. Fixed problem handling courses with no distance information.
  5. Changed battery display on menu bar and GPS page to be red when below %15 full.
  6. Fixed some problems with power and cadence averaging.
  7. Added GPS copyright information to poweron- screen.
